Love It, Love It, Love It!!!

I use this during canning season. Which is from now, July thru October. I've used it for making tomato juice, pasta sauce, apple sauce, baby food. I have used the hand crank food mills/strainers for many years at first and they worked great. Got the job done as well. The kitchenaid strainer is hands down way better then cranking by hand. It's easier, faster, and the clean up is nothing compared to the hand crank thing. I think I have all of the mixer attachments and this 1 is by far my favorite and most used. The only con I have is that I wish the "food holding" area was larger. Only because of the hand crackers have a large deep bowl like holding area but still Love It!!!!

I have had this attachment for over a decade. I have ground well over one hundred pounds of meat over the years. I will buy whole top and bottom rounds when on sale and grind for ground beef and freeze. have used to make venison sausage. have had the grinding dies sharpened twice, works great.

I used it twice, the second time I noticed that it was cracked and I am sure it wasn't like that when I made the purchase, also the stuffer seems to be cracking also.
I would recommend using maybe a steel attachment. just a tad bit disappointed since I absolutely love the mixer

I don't use this attachment very often but when I do it works like a charm. I have ground up pork and beef and have never had a problem. I got mine at a 2nd hand store for $2.00!! It had never been used. What a find.

I got this set with Christmas money. Have only used it once so far, but it was so easy to use. Parts to together so well, and it did a great job. My first ever sausage came out perfect! So glad I got the set with the tray. Made it even easier to do with just one person. Can't wait to try links with the sausage stuffer.

Why did I bother?
1/14/2017
Have owned this for a few months and have made numerous attempts to make sausage. The blade isn't strong/sharp enough to cut or grind meat. It's constantly tangled with sinew-so much that I now use my food processor instead. The auger on the attachment is barely able to push the meat through the grinder or to stuff sausage casings. As for the plunger, that's very little help. It's undersized and the ground meat pushes back up the hopper rather than into the auger...

Grinder attachment

Even though I noticed this attachment has cracks in it now I have had it for at least 15 years and used it to grind potatoes. It has never had a gray powdery{?} residue on it and yes I use the dishwasher to wash it. The only thing I do is rinse it off right after I use it and put it in the dishwasher to wash at a later date. I still totally love this attachment as well as the sausage stuffer.

Food Grinder Poor Quality, Cracked after 2 uses
12/30/2016
I love my Kitchen Aid mixer and have really liked all the attachments that work with it, as most have been really great. However, I am very disappointed in the quality of the food grinder. During the second use, the housing began to crack. Before using it for the 3rd time, my husband put a couple zip ties around it to help reinforce it so it would not continue to crack and we could finish grinding the meat that needed to be done. Never made it thru the 3rd use, completely cracked and meat started coming out the side. As pricey as this is, I would expect a more durable plastic that would perform and hold up to do the job it was designed to do.

I bought a mixer w/the grinder around 2000 my wife used it more than I did, I made jerky 2-3 times a year she used it 4-5 times a month now that she is gone my daughter has the mixer with the same grinder attachment they are still used today. I am considering getting the mini for me as i have a small Kitchen and need a good mixer and I want the best.

Meat Grinder Cracked Housing
Long time KitchenAid customer
7/28/2016
My husband bought our KitchenAid stand mixer during the spring of 1989 along with the accessory bundle. It is a fantastic appliance and I couldn't cook as easily without it. I have sung its praises ever since I started using it. As a matter of fact three of my friends/family have bought one based on my insistence that it is a quality product and our daughter and son in law were very happy to receive theirs as a wedding gift from us. That having been said, the housing on the meat grinder is cracked. I can't say when it did cracked as it has languished in the drawer for many years. Also, we have put it in the top tray of the dishwasher to clean and sanitize it and I don't know if we weren't supposed to do that. The plastic could have become brittle and just cracked. After reading the other reviews complaining about the same issue I am thinking my justifications as to why it cracked are less likely. The only reason I am writing this review now after all these years is because I am surprised and upset that it did crack as it really hasn't been used that often. Also when we were making sausage the meat would squish out around the plate area but I attributed that to it being plastic and not able to seal well. I see other people have had the same issue though. I'm sorry for the length of this review. I wanted to be clear on the reason for the complaint as I do like the mixer. So in summary, I fully recommend the stand mixer as it seems to be of good quality and still works great even though it is 25+ years old. I have also bought other KitchenAid appliances, including our refrigerator, based on the normal quality of the company. I cannot recommend buying the grinder accessory though. It seems to have a design or material flaw and just seems cheap in comparison to the rest of the appliance.

My meat grinder wobbles and flipped many times as I was stuffing sausages. No bueno. The meat mixture does not come out unless I push it with the plastic pusher. Yes, the worm was turning when I checked. I have a video of it wobbling and not stuffing a casing at all! :-(

Re-inventing the wheel didn't work here. Make at least two metal sizes, small and maximum output meat stuffer grinders. How about adding on a set of metal cuber/tenderizers Out of metal! These inferior plastics blow up! Stop it! How did this get past any kind of American quality control? Isn't it time to BEEF up!?

Worked but plastic housing cracked after normal use - cheaply made. Better off buying a higher quality unit. Also, when I requested a repair or warranty info, I received no responses after several attempts to contact Kitchenaid. I own the pasta and ice cream makers and those units are still working very well.
